Sri Lanka

Being a year-round destination to visit, based on the area you visit there are different weather patterns and different experiences you would encounter in the island nation. Fortunately, the ocean maintains a constant temperature of 27 degrees Celsius throughout the year, so tourists can also enjoy pleasant beach time. However, the dry season is generally the best time to plan a trip to Sri Lanka because the temperature is pleasant and stays between 23 and 30 degrees Celsius. From sea shores to slope stations, travelers can partake in their days off with next to no climate related issues.

Although the Sri Lankan cultural milieu reflects vestigial remnants of ethnic, cast and gender definitions, contemporary Sri Lankan society is fast emerging as an inclusive tolerant social entity. Ethnic identity and religious convictions are accepted as essential yet not overarching, stratified social compartments. Glaring income disparities have served to create class differences on the basis of relative affluence and access to knowledge on the basis of acquired language skills especially in English. Even other Sri Lankan of monotheistic faiths resort to Astrology to render the uncertainties of the future to predictable certainty that gives them comfort for the present.

In Sri Lanka’s heat the most practical and comfortable clothing is loose fitting, light cotton wear. This is applicable for most parts of the country as the weather is hot and humid. However the Hill Country is similar to an English spring with the temperature becoming colder in the night. In the mountains a good wool sweater is advisable for the nights while in the day time a jumper or light cardigan should suffice to keep the cold away.Women can wear bikinis when they are on the beach but when travelling around they need to be mindful of cultural sensitivities, so generally knee length shorts/dresses/skirts are advisable. Travellers need to be properly attired when visiting sacred sites and shrines as revealing items of clothing are frowned upon and entry into such sites may be denied. Sandals or flip flops are much more comfortable than shoes and when visiting temples or shrines they are easier to remove. However if planning on engaging in hikes up mountains or through jungle trails a good pair of socks and trainers would be the better option.Sunglasses, hats or caps are also a necessity to protect you from the bright rays of the sun.
